WE NEED TO TALK, UNPACKING RACISM IN OUR SCHOOLS

Posted on:

we need to talkSUNDAY, AUGUST 27th ~ 5:30 PM

BORTIN HALL, Mt. Diablo Unitarian Universalist Church

55 Eckley Lane, Walnut Creek

DIABLO FOR PEACE is back for another family-style town hall discussion on how we can make the schools surrounding Mount Diablo safer places for all our families.

After a quick crash-course in Anti-Racism 101, we will listen from a panel of local high school students as they share accounts of racism and hate crimes witnessed in our schools’ structure and student body. Then they will share how local youth have cultivated restorative justice techniques and anti-hate activities and groups to make our schools a more open and accepting environment.

Afterwards, we will all engage in a constructive group discussion about how we can make this school year one of healing, compassion and solidarity.

We will have a zine to accompany this event, as well as past volumes from our previous events. The zines are free, but we will gratefully accept donations to keep our events running in the future.

Come to learn, come to make your voice heard, come to be an active member of your own community!

Bring your family! Bring some snacks to share! But most importantly, bring an open mind and solutions to the racism and hate that plague our local schools.

SHARING BEGINS AT 5:30 AND PRESENTATION BEGINS AT 6:00.

This is a FREE EVENT!

Co-sponsored by the Racial Justice Committee of Mt. Diablo Unitarian Universalist Church
