MEDEA BENJAMIN’S LATEST BOOK
KINGDOM OF THE UNJUST
Medea Benjamin has become famous for tackling head-on subjects most of us studiously avoid. Here she’s researching the sinister nature of the relationship between the U.S. and Saudi Arabia. What is the origin of this strange alliance? Why do we continue to support a regime that works against our interests?
Benjamin is a co-founder of Code Pink and one of America’s best-known peace activists. This book is a comprehensive primer on Saudi Arabia Signed copies are available for $15, which includes sales tax and shipping.
TRY SUSTAINABLE LIVING THROUGH SIMPLE LIFESTYLE ADJUSTMENTS
In August of 2013 we had a speaker here at the Center with a unique lifestyle. Bea Johnson lives in Mill Valley with her husband and two sons. Famous for having managed to reduce her family’s waste to a mere quart jar per year, she has recently been featured in the NY Times, USA Today, Sunset, People, Huffington Post, YES Magazine, Mother Earth News, The Today Show, The View, Paris Match, BBC Morning, Contra Costa Times and many more media outlets.
Johnson was a big hit at our event, but we didn’t have her book available for purchase at that time. Now we do! New (signed by author) in paperback – $17 includes taxes and shipping.
THE FIGHT FOR FREEDOM
John Reynolds is an ordained American Baptist minister, serving as a pastor in Rhode Island for twelve years. Born in Alabama, he spent seven years with the Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC), working with Martin Luther King Jr. and Ralph David Abernathy. Reynolds lives near Charleston, South Carolina.
“The revealing, relevant, coming-of-age tale of a man and a nation. Tracing his years in the civil rights movement, Reynolds offers an insider’s view of the people, events, and tactics that brought the United States closer to the fulfillment of the founders’ promise that ‘all men are created equal.’ Although this account concerns a time now past, it’s nonetheless a timely reminder that citizens should always be ready to fight the good fight.” -Excerpt from Kirkus Reviews
New (signed by author) in paperback – $15 plus shipping. Proceeds benefit the Antioch division of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference.
THE SELMA VOTING RIGHTS STRUGGLE
Bruce Hartford is the webspinner at the Civil Rights Movement Veterans website, www.crmvet.org. In 1963, he joined the Congress of Racial Equality (CORE) as a volunteer activist. In early 1965, he joined Dr. King’s voting rights campaign in Selma, Alabama and participated in the March to Montgomery. As a field secretary for the SCLC, Bruce was project director for Crenshaw County voter registration. In the summer of 1966, he participated in the Meredith March Against Fear in Mississippi, and until 1967 was part of the SCLC field staff in Grenada, Mississippi during the long and bloody struggle to end segregation and win voter registration.

YOU CAME HERE TO DIE, DIDN’T YOU
Sherie Labedis was born in Los Angeles, California, in 1946. She discovered a passion for civil rights when her high school English teacher asked his students what they were willing to die for. Sherie was only eighteen when she participated in 1965’s Summer Community Organization and Political Education project registering black voters in Pineville, South Carolina, for Dr. King’s SCLC. At the end of the summer of 1965, with the financial support of the NAACP, she enrolled for a semester at Allen University, an African Methodist Episcopal college in Columbia, South Carolina. She was the only white student on campus. She returned to the University of CA, Berkeley, where she earned a bachelor’s degree and teaching credential. She taught English and history for thirty-five years, most of it with at-risk youth, before retiring to write You Came Here to Die, Didn’t You– her first book.
