Vista Room at Hillside Clubhouse – Rossmoor
Friends of Mt. Diablo Peace and Justice Center organized a program about global and local approaches to combating climate change that took place on Friday, Nov. 1, at 1 p.m. in the Vista Room at Hillside Clubhouse, Rossmoor.
Guest speakers presented a global picture of what the planet and its human inhabitants are facing as the earth and its atmosphere continue on a path of accelerating change.
ROBERT MANNING, Rossmoor resident and former fire captain of Contra Costa County Fire Department, shared his website (www.ourfutureclimate.com) which features videos, a link to his organization’s Facebook page, and a pledge form where individuals can affirm their commitment to combating climate change.
DAVID SEABORG, Founder and President of the World Rainforest Fund, is dedicated to saving rain forest by empowering indigenous people. He is an evolutionary biologist and will show how organisms evolve within feedback systems. Seaborg’s presentation focused on the causes and consequences of climate change, but also offer various solutions.
ANDREW KODAMA, Director of the Peace and Justice Center, provided updates on the work of the Center as well as current efforts by young people in the area, for whom climate change is truly an existential crisis.
MARCIA MCLEAN, President of Sustainable Rossmoor, summarized projects that are ongoing in Rossmoor.
